Nicely captured and quite a fascinating looking engine! Thanks for sharing with all of us!!! Looks as if there are some new regs requiring the pilot lights AND even a headlight? Was it common practice for steam engines not to have headlights?? Bram, some side view and even a "wedgie" photo would be great to see!

Regarding the lights; In the Netherlands (where I live and this photo was taken) it is standard to have 3 lights. At the time these locomotives were put in regular service (in Germany) often the lights were off during the day, but I think nowadays in all Europe countries the 3 headlights are always on. On the internet you can find much more details about this german locomotive (originally build as improved pacific class 01 with 3 cilinders for higher speeds; after WW2 rebuild in western Germany with a new boiler)
