This is a nice shot but i have a question that maybe someone can answer. How is running long hood forward safer? Its cuts your vision of the other side down to zero. I've ran units long hood before and I don"t really like it. You have to rely to much on your conductor to watch that side for you. If your conductor is not paying attention or is snoozing then you have no eyes on that side. I know this would be safer for the rare head on collision and hitting large trucks at crossings but you have to wonder if the crossing accidents could be prevented if the hogger could see both sides.

Crew safety is more important than grade crossings :) You have alot more engine to go thru running LHF. You think the view is bad running LHF, try running steamer!

iused to live in Stockbridge back in the mid 70's and used to watch trains go by all the time from the shopping center next to the tracks and enjoyed every minute of it
