SBD/CSX 5728 (1776) was sold to Steel Processing in Waycross, Ga. on 8/5/91. Presumed scrapped. If that ain't a crime, I don't know what is...

Sorry guys, this is not the original "Spirit of '76"(the year I graduated high school). The Spirit locomotive was destroyed in a wreak. This version is a Family Lines System rostered unit that filled the gap, after rebuild-repaint to the Family Lines scheme. After re-numbering this unit into the 5700 series, SBD renumbered a GP16 into this number. That unit stayed mostly around Tampa, FL & also wore the Family Lines System French Gray scheme.

By the way, the tale-tell evidence in identifying the "Spirit of '76" is a short piece of channel welded under the numberboard headlight to mount the removable gold plated bell, as well as several other appertures that were utilised to hold the extra spotlights, etc.
