Those C30-7s were known be being junk and am not surprised they died. I guess the C40-8W was working so hard it blew its turbocharger. Some of those CRL C30-7s are on the MMA.

How long did they keep going or did they eventually stall out? Did they have a set of helpers on the rear and if so did they haft to add another set to the head end sense the head end power wasn't wanting to cooperate?

Boy, should have stopped and waited for a local to attach itself and help it along; that's what they do now-a-days. Great find Steve thanks for sharing!

To answer some of the questions above... The train stalled right where it is photographed. The crew did radio for help (power was sent and attached to the head end), there was not helpers on the rear. This section of track is single track for several miles. I did not stay and wait for the rescue power, sun was already setting. I can clearly remember (10 years ago already?) we were following the tracks and saw black smoke wafting up from the trees coming at us, it looked like a steam engine approching. Turned the car around to get ahead of the train, found an open area in a farm field, and click here is the image. Thanks for checking it out, Steve
