I always wondered how far rail from Steelton, PA (just south of Harrisburg, PA) has gone. Interestingly, Steelton began manufacturing rail once again a few years back (no longer Bethlehem Steel, of course).

At Waterford Avenue in Milwaukee, they replaced the grade crossing there, and in doing so, had to splice in some new rail. Well, the rail is Japenese, and within a month had rusted more than the rail from Bethlehem Steel, Steelton (1965, I believe), that has been there for over 40 years. American steel lasts more than a lifetime, and is the only steel that should be used on our roadbeds.
