"Unfortunately the railroad hopes to bring this unit back into service."
Bite your tongue! Who wish anything bad upon an ALCo. Sure crews may not love it but get em working up the grades on the Del. Div. get that camera out ASAP! Nice shot as well. Sometimes shops can be difficult to shoot it and you handled it very well.

whats wrong with this one? I had shot a pic of it at newfoundland back in the fall.
|
Being there must be a little warmer and have less mosquitos for the unit, than in northern Quebec.
Glad to see some of them are not being scrapped. (and I'm an EMD fan!)

"Alcos are great to take pictures of but are not great to operate." . . . Locomotives will only operate as well as the maintenance provided to them. You can't expect something that's not taken care of to operate properly. Keep in mind that NYS&W is an EMD oriented RR.

I'd rather see this ALCO out in service than scrapped any day.
|
Great shop shot. You really took advantage of the minimal light and made an awesome photo. I do have to agree with Andrew; no one shall speak ill of Alcos.

"Alcos are great to take pictures of but are not great to operate." I beg to differ. The Lake State Railway has been using Alcos for years. The crew love them and regard them as reliable, great pullers. I'm not sure about an M636, but C425s, RS2s, and other assorted Alcos run great.

And people said these were going to be painted into yellowjackets! These engines are dropping like flies!
|
M636's have done well. They've hauled ore trains through cartier's 258 miles of track for many years.
