Technically the location is actually Menlo Park. The border between Palo Alto and Menlo Park is the above-mentioned San Francisquito Creek, which is marked by the bridge in the background, which is also next to El Palo Alto, the tall tree just to the left of the tracks in the distance.

Yes, I know it is actually Menlo Park but, as not everyone is familiar with the intertwined municipal boundaries on the Peninsula, and I was refering to the train leaving Palo Alto, it was done for simplicity. As you may know, there are many places in the area where opposite sides of the streets are in different cities.
