Either that or UP just doesn't know how to paint a locomotive and the paint is comming off.

Is Union Pacific really want to paint this locomotive ? Or just used up all the grey paint .. ?

Look more closely and you'll see that the nose has been replaced and repainted grey - you can still see the remains of the original nose paint job behind the wheel: this is a patched Scarlet & Grey Southern Pacific unit.

With the consist of four SP units and one UP, I will say great catch! This motor on the lead is not a patch-out anymore, now she is a Grey-Out!

Interesting catch Ken! FYI, this UP half primer grey paint job is a graffiti cover up. It does not have a new nose installed - the filled-in SP noselight and plated class lights tell the heritage story. The UP 8707 is the former SP 8504 which has never been repainted in it's 28.5 years existence (these primer touch-ups don't count)

Primer isn't technically paint so you'd be correct... no real paint jobs is a pretty amazing feat!
