Surely the world's most beautiful steam locomotive - and that's from an Englishman! Come on NS, light her fire and put her back on the main line. Please!

She sure looks at home!    ONLINE PETITION: NS - PLEASE GET BACK IN STEAM!! We need to take pride in "our" heritage. Plus, a few coal customers would be really happy. 844 is too far West, Thomas is too small!

Here's another Englishman seconding that comment!

Hey, there may be a little spirit left in that organization after all!

Do the right thing NS. We know you have the money!!!

Still looks every bit as beautiful as she did when she last ran in 1994. Without a doubt the world's most attractive steam locomotive!

Nice catch Skip. And as Mitch and the others have said, please get back into the steam business.

Birmingham would be proud to be home of this fantastic locomotive once more. Our rails have seen no steam at all in 13 years. NS should do the right thing and bring the awesome, beautiful "Thoroughbred of Steam" back. That program dated back to Southern Railway, who knew the value of possitive PR represnted by their steam locomotive ambassadors. Sure beats only hearing the railroad name followed by the word accident on the news.

It would be nice to see this beautiful steam engine to be moving on the rails again.

ONLINE PETITION: NS - PLEASE GET BACK IN STEAM Greets from Austria!!!

Wick keeps inching closer and closer to putting coal in the tender and firing her up. I still feel in my gut he'll have a locmotive under fire before the end of his tenure as president. I mean, between the A-B-B-As, the NRHS excursion on NS rails in Chattanooga and now this, he's doing his best to lobby his board!

I will keep my children out of school and I will miss at least one day of work when I hear that NW611 is under steam and coming to Atlanta! I've only been able to see her run on MSTS and I can only imagine what a wonderful sound she would have in real life. Awsome shot Skip.

I can only imagine NS is inching its way closer to restarting the steam program...

Come on NS, bring her back. Hopefully at least one executive is a steam fan. It would be great to see her run again. NS take a hint from UP and get the steam program started back up again!

I was 5 when they dropped the fires on the steam program. I'd LOVE to see the 611 (and 1218, of course!) smokin it up on the mainline where they BELONG! That is, now that I have my own means of railfan transportation ;)

I wasn't very old when they dropped her fire. I've never even had the chance to see it....

Seeing this beauty at the head of an excursion train or an OCS would be fantastic! Come on NS...embrace your roots!

This is awsome! now all we have to do is get some SD70M-2's or ES40DC's painted in NW, SOU, and CR Heritage paint and we'll be all set!

Thank you for this photo of probably the most beautiful locomotive in the world. I agree with everyone else that she belongs back on the rails under her own power. This beautiful engine was never meant to spend her life sitting in the barn unseen and unused. If Norfolk Southern is unwilling to put her under steam, then they should give her to an organization that would bring her back to life. I would be willing to donate money and my time to see her come alive once again and I'm sure many many more railfans would do the same.

I have to say N&W really got it right with the 'J' Class, I cannot think of another more beautiful steam locomotive anywhere in the world. Again that coming from yet another another Brit. Skip not only is it a beautiful locomotive but it is superbly photographed thank you for sharing it with us.
