The Virginian Railway survives! Well, a semblance of it. I wonder if the resemblance is intentional? Regardless, an excellent livery, a beautiful engine (I'm sure the Museum in Roanoke would be happy to take one!) and obviously, a fantastic photo with great colors and sharpness.

Mitch, That is the first I have heard of the Virginian Railway, being from Australia of course. These locomotives have been painted to resemble the old Victorian Railways (also known as VR), so its technically a heritage scheme these days. As to where VR got it in the first place, I wouldnt know. Also thanks for your comment regarding the color and sharpness.

I would love to know how you have gotten such a great photo at Southern Cross! I have found it quite a difficult location for photography, but it seems quite well lit at night for evening photos.

SitWWW, settings were on manual and EXIF data shows I had ISO at 250, F 4.0 and A 1/4 seconds. This was a hand held shot (no tripod) cause I wasnt about to lug that around all day for one photo. Speaking of which, I took multiple shots (counted 8 of the same photos) and just hoped one would turn out good without a motion blur. Looking at the original, it was a tad darker than this where BS car is at the back but some editing fixed that. Also a tad of saturation in photoshop and here is the final outcome!

VR got its paint scheme from the Erie Railroad in the US.
