Something that we will never see again, is those two livestock cars on the head end. Thanks to the interstate highway system, the truckers got those jobs. One week I loaded three of those, two double decks of sheep and one single deck of hogs. The next week there were no stock cars on our siding. When I asked my father if he had forgot to order rail cars. He stated that the interstate had been opened to our town on Monday, and that it was three stoplights here and two stoplights on Chicago to get to the packing house. One sleeper equipped semi and two drivers, equals overnight to the packing house with less shrinkage of the beef. The End of an Era.
