It wasn't exactly subsidence, it was during Penmanshiel tunnel enlarging works that the tunnel collapsed killing three men who are buried there. There is a memorial stone trackside.

I beg to differ - this deviation was necessitated by subsidence. The Penmanshiel Diversion following the tragic collapse of the tunnel is about 30m further south-east towards the borer with England near Berwick and happned in the late 1970s. The Prestonpans diversion (the one pictured) is between Prestonpans and Wallyford on the Eastern outskirts of Edinburgh and was constructed in the early years of the present century.
