Belgian Railways NMBS (SNCB) ordered 300 locomotives of this type after the 2nd World War. Belgian industry couldn't meet the demand, it was the North-American railway industry that delivered these machines. They were put aside after only 20 years of service, marking the end of Belgian steam traction. Locomotive 29.013 is the only functional remainder of this series: it got a complete overhaul a few years ago and can now regularly be seen in front of special trains. Great document, thanks for sharing!

To add to the comment above. The 300 Type 29 engines were built as follows: 29.001 to 160 by Montreal Locomotive Works at Montreal, Quebec: 29.161 to 220 by Canadian Locomotive Company at Kingston, Ontario; 29.221 to 300 by American Locomotive Company (ALCo) at Schenectady. The first was delivered in December 1945 and all were complete in September 1946. The loco illustrated is 29.070 from Montreal not No 29.280 as stated. Good to see one colour.
