Is this a case of real life copying the model, or did the model railroaders copy real life. Some steam locomotives had a "Janey" coupler, which was a knuckle coupler with a slot in the end of it's knuckle to receive the link of the old link and pin method of coupling. Some commuter railroads use switchers with standard knuckle couplers, but these engines sometimes have to move electric Mu coaches and have conversion devices to perform this work. A very interesting photo Michael, and thanks for the posting. P.S. Most model railroaders have used a "converta-car, with a different type of coupler on each end of the car for use when changing from one kind of couplers to a different type or brand.
