Wow, what is that doing in Illinois? Nice photo!

Indeed, 90230 is rather far removed from her usual haunts ... but we've become accustomed to seeing Amtrak equipment turn up almost anywhere! She's "leading" only in the sense of providing the controls, however -- 90230 is an NPCU: non-powered control unit, converted from a former F40PH. The Cascades Service trains use these on most runs in as much as there are no turning facilities to put the power always on the appropriate end.

Wow, how could I have missed that? Great shot!

Well, I'm not sure that I'm right about this, but I think 90230 was acquired in the mid-west in replace with 90225. I know that in August 2008 90225 was sent to Beach Grove, Indiana, and was fitted with satellite tv transmitting antennas for use for live tv programming during mid September 2008. Most of the roof section has been removed and two covered antennas fitted. This is in preparation for live tv broadcasts from New York State for ABC(US) during September. And probably, due to power shortage, that probably acquired one of their units. That's probably why, but I might not be correct with my reasoning about 90230 in the mid-west.
