One reason the Q ran its E units elephant style was that the E8/E9 fleet was used in Zephyr or commuter service as needed. So, when a set of Es arrived in Chicago, the entire set could be quickly turned on a wye, and split up for suburban service. Burlington's original Gallery cars were steam-heated, with a generator-equipped, heavyweight combine required for lighting needs. But this practice ended with the conversion to the HEP/Push-Pull system, which required separate locomotive fleets for mainline and commuter trains.

Great picture Marty, it sure would be great if the old Eola bridge was still intact!
