Nice one Marty. It seems like the budd was out of service this day.

Actually, I don't think New York Central ever ran a Budd RDC schedule out of Chicago. Rather, I believe this to be the remnant of a train whose run had been discontinued east of Elkhart, IN. It continued to run as a stub from Elkhart to Chicago until a train-off petition for the remainder of the run could be approved. Thanks for the nice capture of a "minimal" train, Marty.

Perhaps it's the way the light is hitting the car but it looks like that coach has a grey-painted letterboard area that runs the length of the car. I can see the usual letterboard is the same size of other Budd-built coaches but the paint appears to continue beyond, over the fluting, to the end of the car in both directions. That wouldn't be typical for NYC Budd-built coaches. NYC had a few odd-ball paint jobs on their passenger cars here and there. Just wondering if this was one.
