Great picture of what has to be the wierdest locomotive ever built. Wasn't this based on something Walt Disney come up with?

Brian, it wasn't Walt Disney (were you joking?), but in fact it was Robert Young of the C&O who was the inspiration for the Turbotrain. Recall Young coined the moniker - "C&O for Progress" and vowed that the C&O's passenger service should be second to none. The original design was called "Train X" and was very similar. The train was thought up in the early 50's and co-designed with C&O's research department and Pullman Standard. The Pullman company later built the cars onthe Turbotrain as pictured. Unfortunately, Young left the C&O in 1954 to run the New York Central and the project never got completed. However, Google a search on NYC's Explorer to see a variant later pursued.

Walt didn't come up with this Turbotrain, it was something about the Aerotrain!
