Indeed, Amtrak had Rohr turbos derived from these RTGs. They were built in the US under license from the French maker. I think I've read that the first unit or units were built in France. RTG means "Rame à Turbine à Gaz" which means Gas Turbine Trainset. They were the second generation turbo trains in France. They were exported to Egypt, to the US and to Iran if I am right. They were withdrawn from service some years ago, mainly because of high fuel costs. On some of the lines that are still non electrified and where they used to run, like Lyon-Bordeaux, the passenger service has deteriorated since they were withdrawn. They were a real improvement in terms of speed.
