At the ripe old age of sixty five, I can remember riding this line from Atlanta to Columbus, more than once. The Man of War was made up of Budd streamline cars, Named for Georgia Military Bases. They were Ft. Mitchael, Ft. Mc Phearson, Ft. Oglethorp, and The round end obs, Ft. Benning. 1 combine, 2 coaches and 1 coach / obs with some kind of galley for snacks. I only got to ride the observation once or twice, as it was the first to go. When my mother was a girl she lived in ( Chipley, now called Pine Mountain ) and rode to Hamilton to go to school. To get to Columbus to see Family, I took either the Southern from Lexington, Ky. or the Louisville & Nashville from Winchester, Ky. to Atlanta and the Central of Georgia the rest of the way. The train in this photo is pulling up rails, can't make that trip anymore ! I still have great memories of the mentioned railroads.
