Thanks Nicholas! I spent a few afternoons with the 2nd trick operator at Bryn Mawr back when I was in high school. As I recall, the tower was manned for only two shifts, and controlled by Paoli during third shift. I can still remember the "DING" of the bell as trains approached, the old US&S lever machine, and the smell of old cigarettes and lubricating oil that inhabited the place. Of all the things I miss about classic era railroading, it's towers and their operators that I miss the most.
