Excellent work....a classic urban railroading scene.

Wow! What a somewhat rare consist, a P42 on the point of the Cascade Talgo, another train with Amfleets. Beautiful skyline!

Thanks for all the nice comments they're appreciated along with the votes! Thank you. I've noticed a few railpix contributors have confused this for "Union Station" and while Seattle does have a Union Station, it is 1 blocks east of this location and not in the frame. Sadly Union Station hasn't seen rail service since the 70's. The still used King Street Station was built jointly by the Northern Pacific and Great Northern railroad and has been in service since 1906.

What do jobless WaMu employees have to do with this picture? Great night catch!

Stunning photo! I remember when that pointy tower just to the left of center - the Smith Tower - was, at 42 stories, the tallest building west of the Mississippi! I have a great appreciation for night photography, you done good!

I voted for this too Ross! What amazes me with this picture is the clarity and the lighting without the glare. How did you achieve that? Great shot!

Thanks a lot for all the votes you guys, PC is always a great award to get from your peers. At the risk of getting too mushy I dedicated this image to my 3 month old son Corbin born 3 months premature at 1lb – 8oz due to some complications. He’s spent the first 3 months of his life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Swedish in Seattle and during shift change the parents get kicked out for about an hour while the night shift gets updated on everyone’s condition. During those times or when I needed a break I’d walk around downtown Seattle and take some pictures as I find it clears my head. This was one of 8 times in 2 months I walked down to King Street Station trying to time the correct day in which there was the maximum amount of trains in the station at the moment in which the ambient light in the sky cooled down to where it was just a little dimmer than the city lights. In that 10 minute window of maximum trains and balanced light you get more than the boring black sky, the skyscrapers really stand out, and the city lights don’t overpower the scene. If it wasn’t for my youngest son I never would have paid so much time and attention to this scene. Thanks little-buddy.

Great job on explaining your techniques Ross! This is clearly NOT a one shot deal. Wait 'till your kid grows up to show him what he inspired you to do! Thanks again.
