Interesting to realize we are further removed in time from the day of this photo, than that day in 1977 was from the apex of the steam era...

R. A. Durfee you have captured one of those moments when a new age of American Railroading is dawning and old anthracite diesels are having their last days in the sun. Marty is right. This was a dirty place to work. Soon after the day of this photograph, jobs were lost, rails torn up and this great monument to the golden age of American industry slowly became another brown field hazardous plague. The abandoned power plant on the right of the picture had a magnificent all steel smoke stack. This whole area is an industrial archeologist’s gold mine.
