It's the mine drainage causing the orange, sulpher enriched water. Just 4 miles upstream, you'll find some good trout fishing. But, once it's past the old mine field near the steel plant, it's too toxic for aquadic lifeforms. The creek was even more orange back in the late 60's when I went to Jr High in Latrobe. You could smell the stream then. PRR did the best thing and built the bridge out of stone. The stream is highly corrosive of steel.
