Is there any kind of regular maintenance being performed on 1218? Keeping the gears oiled, etc? I would fly back east from California if this one ever ran again.

Looks like she is getting rusty-I`m still ticked off they stopped running 611-1218......
NS was my Favorite then,I guess it`s the UP now.

What I would give to see her under steam again. At least they gave some people a chance to take pictures outside the museum.

As much as I would love to see 1218 return to steam (or 2156!), a big problem is that much of her 'guts' was sold off or even discarded when, at the end of the NS steam program in 1994-1995, they put her back together and send her from Irondale, AL to Norfolk, VA. Making new components would likely be quite difficult and expensive.
