A Green arrow in the condition that I remember them, nice shot

I too remember many of the 3-cylinder 'V2s' being allowed to run this woefully grubby condition as already commented on by Andy Parr. York MPD had several allocated and they were to be seen on all types of freight and passenger duties until the end of the steam era. Only 8 of the 184-strong class were fitted with double blastpipe & chimneys. Two were fitted with the LMS 'Royal Scot' type and a further six (including 60881) with the Kylchap (KYLala-CHAPelon) arrangement. No.60800 'Green Arrow' is the only preserved example and has the original internal steam pipes contained in a single 'monobloc' casting. Maintenance difficulties & cracking of this casting meant many were built (or rebuilt) with outside steam pipes as per 60881.
