Trespassers, sure, but boys will be boys as they say. They don't appear to be extremely close to the train. When I was their age I spent half my days near the old NYC Adirondack Sub tracks. I used to be invited into the cabs of the Alco FAs and RSs that frequented that sub to the point where I would just climb on board without having to be asked. I was always careful and respectful of the crews whom I got to know on a first name basis. It can be dangerous, but kids hanging around railroad tracks is as old as railroad tracks themselves.

One snippy comment came to mind immediately. Hey, there's no problem, neither one of them has camera!

I agree with the photographer, who I assume is shooting the photo off railroad property. These kids are tresspassing and they should not be where they are at. Where is their parents?

Man, there is no rightous indignation like railfan indignation.

Hey, these trespassers add a little color and interest to your shot. I used to do the same thing; loved hanging around the tracks, just soaking up the atmosphere. No harm, no foul.
I sure hope you didn't narc 'em out, man. :)

I've seen trains pass by with broken mettle bands being dragged along side, probably capable of cutting a person in two. Very dangerous to be in range of something hanging from cars.
