CZ17, great photo of a great era in railroading; single carload traffic off branch lines. The railroads worked hard to run off single carload customers and branch lines. I have to believe in this economy today, that would be a tremendous source of traffic. Your great photo shows what was and what could be, but what isn't. Thanks for a job well done.

As a former shipper of "stuff," the railroads made sure that trucks were cheaper for less than a boxcar load shipments and really, you needed more than a few boxcars for the railroad to be useful. The railroads might have gone extinct for non-bulk loads had intermodal containers not come into use. Too bad, but I guess that is economics.

Great memories Clark! I recall listening to this local many times as it hit the branch, while I hung out with the other locals at the Glendale depot.
