This has got to be the slowest construction project in the history of railways. It has taken years to add just one track - there never seems to be anyone working! I visited the Toronto area in May of 2008 and 2009 and noticed very little progress from one year to the next. And we wonder why our railways are so many decades behind!

I know it seems so, and it is behind original schedule which had called for completion in this summer, but there was a heck of a lot of background stuff to be done before the tracklaying commenced. All the bridges had to be built with the exception of Trafalgar Rd. which had an extra bridge from back in '88 I think, when they re-did the whole thing (in order to widen the road to 6 lanes) and the Royal Windsor Drive overpass which had plenty of room for an extra track under it from when it was built. Then they had to build a new VIA station here at Oakville and demolish the old one which was right where they wanted the new track to go after fitting in another platform. There also seemed to be a lot of work going on in Oakville Yard as they made their way through, not to mention all the signals and associated wiring. I figure this is the end game now, piecing the trackwork all together, although I haven't seen what things look like at the Port Credit end lately.
