I've two thoughts about those dirty locomotives: First, if this was a public or customer pax special... why aren't the locos clean? Seems like a public relations blunder to pull a train with such dirty power. Second, I guess UP was doing its best impression of SP's often dirty power. hee hee (In all fairness to SP, their specials usually had freshly washed locomotives! ;-) )
