Today, the New Haven line is dominated by the new M-8s, and there are but eight "married pairs" (16 cars) of these M-2s left which run only on an "exception" basis (as in when they don't have enough M-8s to cover all train assignments). So as usual, for the railfan these would now be the big "catch" and the M-8s the run-of-the-mill. A fine example of why you should never take the run-of-the-mill for granted. Had a ten-car set this morning, and can say the only thing I really miss about these is the mechanical bells for the "closing door" alarm. I hate the new "beeper" door closing "alarms" which are usually set too loud and will probably cause me hearing loss at their frequency before I retire and don't have to commute to work any more.
