For those that may not know, this unit has a 12/567BC engine from a scrapped E8. South Louisville shops did the work and did it well.

Sometimes when night crews would show up at the L & N yard in Lexington, Ky. They would call the local yard manager at home, to ask him how to run one of these things ! Mr. Eldridge would simply state that the locomotive controls were Alco, and the Diesel engine controls are EMD. I remember seeing lots of EMD E type trucks without their wheel sets near the South Louisville Shops, which ties in to something I once heard. Which was that one ex-C&O E-8 would provide what was needed to repower an Alco switcher. Engine, Main generator, Electric radiator fan and most needed cab controls for same.
