Is that a wooden coach? And anyone know the fate of the E unit?

By the looks of the train, I think it was used for maintenance.

This image speaks volumes of the transition from old steam car railroading to the new era of head end power and the slow upgrade of South Station. At the time of this picture, Amtrak was deploying FP40’s and push pull T trains were just over the horizon. The massive semaphore signal bridges were doomed. The front locomotive shows the last Amtrak livery for E units, The second unit is a long surviving unit in PC livery The yellow box is a flange plow and yes the silver monitor roof varnish is part of a wreck / MOW train. David P. Morgan of Trains Magazine would have had a field day with this kind of shot.

It seems like only YESTERDAY, I can clearly recall walking around that puddle (lake) more times than I would care to talk about. The ground here seemed to always be an "interesting" mix of oil and water which stuck to your shoes like glue.
