This sure is an impressive shot! Makes one almost feel like it's contemporary D&RGW ... unfortunately there is no such thing.

Excellent shot, Jim with a multitude of neat D&RGW details. The old seachlight signals at West Summit still are marked as numbered, positive (absolute) block signals. Rio Grande's choice of black smelter slag for ballast is intact. D&RGW 5359 has yet to receive ditch lights although the number boards have been changed out by the SP. You were very fortunate to catch Rio Grande power on this IPP coal empty since Union Pacific pool power was assigned to lead these trains out of Provo 99.9% of the time. The 84 car train (the standard count back then) is bound for the Skyline mine on the 18 mile Pleasant Valley Branch at Colton Jct. some seven miles away. This move was formerly D&RGW train #734, but likely was integrated into the SP ID system by 1992 as the IPSNC. Love the great storm lighting as well. Thank you for posting!
