Good catch! Those things had been sitting there for a long time.

It's just incredible to me that they could put them back together that easily. What is underneath the tarps on the flatcars? Parts?

Those aren't flatcars; those are the frames for the engines. I would guess, since the NTSB has finished up its work on this wreck, that they have released the engines to UP again. I'm wondering if they'll be rebuilt or scrapped. Anyone know?

The Engines involved in the accident are under the traps. They are finally heading off too be rebuilt.

Very nice catch. They didn't seem to be in that bad shape. They were sitting in Oxnard and Moorpark ever since the accident. You can find photos of them if you search around. They would wrap them in tarps, but they kept blowing off. I guess they were not touching them until the NTSB investigation was over with. Maybe now that is done they will be fixed, or scrapped if they aren't worth repairing.

I could be wrong but I thought the Metrolink locomotive took the worst beating out of the three involved. It would not surprise me if the UP units are rebuilt. Looks odd the way they chose to cover them up. I can't imaging it being easy to find a tarp made to cover up a locomotive.

Great catch! Also surprised at the number of clicks from Trainfoamers.com !

Knowing what is hidden beneath those tarps I would offer a moment of silence. Bow your head gentlemen, show your respects.
