Nice photo played the light perfect. Notice the extended nose on lead unit is that for steam generator?

Actually, the extended nose is for a diesel generator Head End Power set, as the CN Tempo Train consists, built by Hawker Siddeley, comprised the first HEP-powered passenger car fleet built in North America. Later, CN modified some baggage cars with HEP sets to allow other locomotives to handle Tempo consists. These cars, which eventually went to operate on the Rio Grande Ski Train, are now back in Canada, to replace the steam-heated equipment on the Algoma Central (now CN) Agawa Canyon tour train.

I grew up in Ingersoll, ON and watched these units daily going either to London or back to Toronto. I became fascinated when a derailment occured in late 73, leaving the train and locomotive scattered around the station. The unique red and white paint scheme of these trains were the big attention getter, until VIA introduced the LRC. Nice to see them again, even if only in pictures.
