I hope the injuries are minor. I found an additional video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvrksYo1HsE

I took the video that you linked about 1 hour after the derailment. Apparently The eastbound grain train failed to stop for the red at KC Junction, and collided with 671 as it was crossing from the north to the south main. It is rumored that the Engineer of the eastbound was later air lifted to hospital in Calgary AB.

I am officially predicting that this shot will be up in the top 2 for the year.

Bummer to see the Olympic unit all dinged up.

Wow. I hate to see how devastating these accidents are. I just wish that people would be more careful. I know that the engineer is in need of support, but it could've at least been a regular GEVO, not the Olympic unit. Ah well. I'll keep him in my prayers.

Appears to be another case of human error. It makes for a spectacular photo. However, I hate to see trains have this happen to them. They belong on the rails not on the ground.

All three locomotives are upright on the rails again and have been sitting outside the carshop in Golden for a while.

That had to hurt!

the official cause of this derailment was that the crew was distracted by cellphone use. The use of marijuana was also mentioned by the Canadian Transportation Safety Board who investigated this wreck.

Jon, Jake, you are both right. The engineer had been smoking marijuana, but was airlifted to Calgary because he drank upwards of 10 litres of water to flush out the drugs, and suffered Water Intoxication. The worst part was that it worked, when he was finally tested for drugs, his blood was too diluted for any to show up. Regardless, he never returned to work for CP again.

8874 has been fully rebuilt and is back in service. Saw her on the Laggan Sub today.
