Interesting shot, but this seems like a good way to derail and damage a car. Hope they can get an actual ballast hopper to do this work instead of taking a shortcut.

Very nice! You made the best of the processing with the high sun and peek-a-boo cloud cover The colors and the lettering draw the eye.

I've worked ballast trains before and we did simular things. (CSX) one time all was going well even with the tie being pushed by the rear wheel untill we got to a road crossing. The rail was lower then the road itself so the tie stopped but we didn't. All of a sudden over the radio... stop stop stop. when i did, the rear wheel had one wheel over the tie and the frame of the truck was resting nicely on top. Boy they lucked out. Not wanting to derail the car specially at a road crossing the track gang pulled out the chain saw and started cutting. A half hours of blocking the crossing they managed to get the tie out piece by piece. Needless to say he people at the road crossing were not to happy. But we still do it now and then. We now have better cars but still use old coal hoppers. that's another story, the hopper can not be fully loaded or it will rest on top of the wheels. Now if we can just get the rock plant to remember that.
