I would like one! What do you think the price range will be? Are they normally reserve auctions?

Anyone got a billion dollars I can borrow? (don't know if I can pay you back.....) It's for my "Reincarnation of the Newfoundland Railway Fund." and those T-motors would look nice hauling goods 'cross the island. Thanks. ;-)

They are getting rid of some of the best power that ever roamed the rails... Sadly most of it will probably see a torch.

When I saw the thumbnail my heart sunk. So rare now to see a tunnelmotor on the road. Their all going going gone!

I would love to have one. Not sure where I would park it though.

Yeah, I saw those when I rode past on the light rail the other day and got kinda teary eyed. I spent over four years as a trainman for the D&RGW and a lot of that was in the Moffat pool. I have the sound of five of those beasts in run 8 crawling up the hill from Fraser to Winter Park permanently engraved on my brain. Sad to see them put out to pasture!

I have photos and some cell phone video of these units in Weber Canyon, enroute to Denver from UP's Ogden, Utah yard, where most of these SD40-2T's up for auction had been held while UP collected them from around the west over the last year. I took these photos and video on April 16. I just need to figure out how to download it from my Blackberry Tour.

Operable SD40-2s have been going for around $100K lately, in case anyone was wondering. You might get a better deal if you're willing to buy in bulk. ;-)

@ Dave : The prices very 80k to 500k dollars, the SW will probably go for more. There isn't as much demand for high horse 6 axles. UP was reported selling GP50 for 80K a few months ago. As far as tunnelmotors go, we have a "new" SD45T running around central Illinois. Wouldn't mind picking up a slug and SW.

The Armour Yellow 40T's probably won't sell. As for the ex D&RGW 40T's, boy will they bid like crazy!

Its hard to imagine that these Beasts of the rails are slowly becoming rare. At least Trona, W&LE, B&LE (CN), and a few others still have Tunnel Motors. I would love to buy a couple of these, repaint them back in D&RGW, and ship them over here to New Zealand and have them put on Static display. I wonder if our Prime Minister and the U.S. President would agree to that "Free Trade Agreement", I know I would!
