Stored steam. Pretty much a giant thermos bottle on wheels. Fill it with steam and superhot water at a central point. As steam pressure in tank drops, more of the superhot water evaporates into steam. Pretty much the steam version of the "batteries not included" theme.

I suppose that counts as a zero emissions locomotive. Who needs battery hybrids or gensets.

What is the purpose of running a steam locomotive in such an usual way? It does require some emissions somewhere to make the steam.
