I've been looking at this for several minutes now and I still can't figure out how this switch actually operates.

Eric and all, I believe there are about 14 moves that are required to change the rails and cog rack from one track to the other. There is one piece of rail that has the base and web cut out so that it fits over the rack. You can see this piece to the rear of the worker. In front of his feet, another section of rail will be hinged over to make space to install the piece of cog rack that he has in his hands. It was a very interesting operation to watch. Cheers....Dave
