The nose mounted bells were just as likely to get plugged by snow as a frame mounted one. The snow blew into the bell as the unit ran along but, it was easy to clear and then the crew could retreat to the cab and warm up. N&W used these girls on locals mostly as they did not have dynamic braking. This is a very nice shot for Nickel Plate modellers.
