Born before the days of exane wire, in later years, insulation in the electrical control cabinet would almost fall off if you looked at it and definitely if you touched it. This resulted in many electrical cabinet fires and burned trainlines. We tried to keep a built-up (by Atlanta Motor Shop-Pegram) spare cabinet at Chattanooga Diesel Shop at all times for just such occasions. The ALCO trucks (or "sled runners" as we referred to them) were also a pain. Ever try changing an inside brake shoe without the benefit of a pit?

Note the external fill port (just above the horizontal portion of the yellow hand rail) for chlorine tablets tablets used by the Microphor toilet system SOU employed early on.
