I started my sea-going career on a great old Fairbanks-powered, WWII era ship which would put out this very same cloud of bluish-white exhaust when pulling hard. I can STILL remember what it smelled like, and the sound . . . music.

Is this the east or west portal?

^James, this is the east portal. Look above to tell. Great shot Doug, I like how you managed to show the tunnel's far portal in the shot

A-B-A C-Liners!!! This is some truly classic stuff you are sharing Doug. The C&NW and Milwaukee Road H-16-66's that were assigned to ore service in Upper Michigan used to put out this same blueish white smoke when pulling heavy ore trains.

For such an old action shot the quality of both the photography and the subject matter is first class. My guess is that this is on ASA 10 Kodachrome, so for this to be so sharp is outstanding. Thank you. Bob
