Great photo, neat subject matter, I wonder if that is a former CB&Q locomotive before the BN merger? If it is, I hope it will find its way to a museum someday and be restored.

The long shed that is seen here is the thawing shed used to thaw out frozen coal cars so the coal will fall onto the conveyor belt. The first loco that was assigned at the barge transloader was a Baldwin switcher. The railroad normally would store the switcher in the thawing shed and leave the heat on in the winter. One winter the operation was shut down for Christmas for a few days. During the shut down period there was an ice storm and the power went out. When work resumed the power had been restored and every thing seemed normal, but not for long. The Baldwin had frozen, then had thawed out when power was restored. But it no longer had any water in it's cooling system, so by the time it's operator noticed that it was running hot, it's crank shaft had been ruined. Sadly the unit was never repaired. There are photos of the Baldwin unit on RailPictures, search under TTI or possibly Baldwin Switchers.
