Nice photo! I believe your comment about the right side of the locomotive being the fireman's side is incorrect. From what I remember about the cab of the 1218, your photo shows the crew on the enigineer's side of the locomotive.

I think most north American locomotives have engineer's side on the left (when viewed from this angle) and the fireman on the right. If you look at the Chinese locomotives like Iowa Interstate's pair, then this is reversed. Nice photo of a magnificent locomotive.
