The UP PR department touted the Big Boy as the biggest steam locomotive in the world. They were right only in the sense that it is the longest. There were other engines that could pull more weight, or had more horsepower or weighed more. Still, who cares? It captured the public's imagination like no other as the greatest locomotive in the world.
Ole' 4006, believe or not, is looking in better shape than when I saw it in 1964.
