In addition to its lower-than-normal stripes, the 334 has a decidedly non-standard fuel/water tank that looks as if it were borrowed from a GE U30C. This E8 came from the BN (CB&Q) where it had been their 9936.

If memory serves me right the North Coast Hiawatha stopped at Missoula. The Empire Builder ran on the northern route through Montana where the NCH took the southern route through the state until discontinued a few years later.

WOW, love the photo. I do wish Amtrak still ran to Missoula.
