The Arsenal had two 44 Tonners which usually were used to haul away hoppers full of ash from the coal-fired steam and electricity generation plant as see in the photo.

These are not 44-Tonners, they are both GE 80-Tonners. The 7393 was built in 1942 and is longer that its partner 1682 which was built in 1952. The later model 80-Tonners were overhauled in the 1980's and 1990's and still see service today, USAX 1682 works at Tooele Army Depot, Utah. Sadly the army has begun to retire these great switchers and most are being replaced with modern Gensets or rebuilt Geeps. Thank you for sharing this photo of military railroading!

GREAT PHOTO, what color was this US ARMY engine, is it blue or is it black? Any more shots of it?
