The Red Hat Society (RHS) is a social organization for women; however, a red hat and purple attire may only be worn by a member who is 50 years or older. They were parodied on the Simpsons in 2005 as "The Cherry Red Tomatoes" I was in San Diego shooting the Pacific Surfliner when their convention let out for the day so I had to look them up.
